Monday Night

Yesterday I didn't go to the gym to run, which is a conscious decision, even if I think it wasn't.
I drove to the gym this morning, and it was so packed there wasn't even room for me to sit to change my shoes. So I left.... There is a chance I am struggling with some serious lack of motivation. I should go to the gym tonight, and I will feel guilty if I don't. Wes doesn't want to go, which makes it a little harder to want to go tonight. I know I need to do it to keep building up my base... But I just don't want to!

A forced week off

An entire week off from running sucks for building up endurance. I had to take a week off after somehow managing to really screw up my back. I found a chiropractor who is amazing and she had me back to almost normal after 3 sessions, or at least back to running. I'm feeling a lot better and have already picked back up. I learned that running isn't easy cause apparently I get unbelievably stressed whe I run and hold a ton of tension in my neck. I didn't even know I did that. One more thing to focus on while running... But after running today I felt pretty good, and made sure I wasn't too tense. Guess i need to work on my relaxation skills.

My first 5K is in 22 days and I'm only up to 1.5 miles. I have 22 days to add 2 miles to that, and I'm bound and determined to do it. My original plan was to start at .5 miles and bump it up by a .5 a week. But at this point I have to change the plan. The new plan is to run 1.5 miles for 3 days in a row, then take a day off, then increase by .5 miles every three days and repeat... If everything goes to plan I will be good to run 3.5 miles on March 9th. Which allows 5 days to get comfortable running that distance... Hard plan, can I do it?

Week Two

Week two consists of running 1 mile for 5 days. I am on day 4 today, and really enjoying it. I look forward to it all day long, and feel fantastic after. However, when I'm running, I don't love it... Guess I will have to work on that...
Anywho, next week I get to start running 1.5 miles. Let's see how that goes. :)

Oddly enough

I am incredibly sore from yesterday... Which is surprising. I power walked for 3.5 miles and ran .5 miles. I spent an hour on the treadmill, which is the longest I have ever been on a treadmill. I have spent about a million hours on the elliptical, and my bike, but never the treadmill. This is mostly because its incredibly boring.

Anyways, I'm headed back to the gym, for round two.

Running

Today was day 1 of the new running regimen. It went very well, and I'm looking forward to tomorrow to do it again!

Now, I have to actually sign up for these 5k's so that I can't back out!

Has anyone noticed how narcissistic blogs are? I can't find anything else to write about! :) Soooo I guess 1 sentence posts should be expected.

Getting going

I have so far found four 5ks and one 10k. My plan is to do these with Amy, and have her keep me on track...

They are:

  • Mary's walk - Saco - March 13th
  • Pity the fool 5k - Belfast - April 2nd
  • Twilight 5k - Portland - June 9th
  • Trails to Ales 10k - Portland - September 18th
  • Spooky 5k - Freeport - October 30th
Now, I know that as of right now I can run about 1.5 miles, but I'm gonna start from scratch anyway... So for the next seven weeks, I will start running .5 miles and increase by .5 miles a week. So that the last week, I will be running 3.5 miles and be completely ready for the 5k in March..

Have I mentioned that I am getting married in August!? So, obviously I am trying to lose weight prior to the wedding... Once I am up to running 7 miles at a time, 2x per week, I will start doing p90X to top off the fitness. I have to start p90X on May 20th to be completed one week prior to the wedding.

Let's see if I can stick to it, and how far I get with fitness and weight loss before the wedding.

Weight loss is a permanent life change, not a temporary change. I'm working on changing my outlook on life, so that I can be successful.  I will keep posting, so that I can hold myself accountable. :D

Resolutions

Ok, I have a few that I have already thought of...

  1. Get in shape - specifically feel better about my body and increase my abilities

  2. Run 3 5ks -

  3. Stay positive - This should pose a challenge with the wedding coming up, but I'm up for a challenge!

  4. Build Habits - specifically make sure to take a multi vitamin daily, drink 64oz of water daily, etc.

  5. Become more fiscally responsible. :)

Stay tuned to see how I come with these goals... AND, whether or not I will ride in the trek this year. TBD.

I never added photos from the trek...

I may be over 6 months late, but here they are!

New Year's Resolutions

I always set one New Year's resolution, and stick to it until... April, at the latest. This year, thats changing.
